You are both part of this slow life
30 min live performance to camera , as part of Paper Antirave Cave by Laura Mcglinchey Pipe Factory, Glasgow commissioned by Look Again Aberdeen
2020
In the context of Laura McGlinchey’s Paper Cave Anti Rave where recycled event flyers/posters are repurposed and transformed to create an immersive installation. Performance artist Gemma Jones recreates this process in relation to her body by investigating the materiality of time, energy, movement and current experiences of prolonged physical pain by responding to essay Tableaux Vivants: Inside the Statue’ by artist and writer: Dr Aura Satz. Through slowness, recognition, and repetition, a series of recollections of body movements from previous live performances are re-enacted, repurposed and transformed. This performance focuses on the power of slowness causing the audience to be drawn into the meditative state of the performer, gaining awareness of their bodies, where they can become interconnected with each other. The purpose of stripping back this performance and isolating the performer from any physical materials resulted in an accessible methodology that reflects the current abilities of the body.
